ACCIDENT AT SHIMABALA TOLL PLAZA

The Zambia Police Service in Chilanga District recorded a slight injury road traffic accident that occurred on January 4, 2026, around 11:00 hours at the Shimabala Toll Plaza booth along Kafue Road in Shimabala area.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the accident involved two public service vehicles.

Mr. Chilabi says the first, a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number CAH 3929ZM, was driven by Answerwell Mwanza, aged 41, of Chawama Compound. He escaped unhurt. The vehicle had six (6) passengers on board, all of whom sustained slight injuries.

He says the second vehicle, a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number ALR 5658, was driven by Warren Chiyabwe, aged 23, of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka. The driver escaped unhurt. The vehicle had two (2) passengers on board, both sustaining slight injuries.

Mr. Chilabi says all injured passengers were treated as out-patients at Chilanga Health Centre, and their condition was described as stable.

He says Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hiace registration number ALR 5658, heading towards Kafue at excessive speed, lost control of the vehicle, veered off his lane, and collided with the stationary Toyota Hiace registration number CAH 3929ZM, which was parked at the toll booth facing the opposite direction.

Mr. Chilabi says investigations into the incident are ongoing.
