DR KASESE BOTA QUESTIONS ECL POSTMOTERM

Image
_What justified the procedure, and what did it reveal?_ Lusaka, 29 April 2026 — Amb. Dr. Kasese BOTA has delivered a forceful critique raising serious ethical and legal questions over the reported post-mortem of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Dr. Bota is not speaking from speculation. She is a trained medical doctor with extensive experience in clinical practice and public health research. During Zambia’s HIV epidemic, she worked closely with patients and communities, promoting informed consent, transparency, and respect for patients’ rights, particularly around procedures involving biological samples.   It is that professional grounding that gives weight to her concerns today. “When you have suspicious circumstances of death, you can do a post-mortem,” she said. “But as medical doctors, we always inform the family so that the family gives consent. You cannot take anything from a person’s body unless consent is given. And when a person dies, the next of kin provides that...

VETERAN JOURNALIST WARNS OVERZEALOUS PARTY CADRES AGAINST ATTACKING JOURNALISTS

Image
‎HOW TO AVOID ATTRACTING THE CURIOSITY OF JOURNALISTS ‎...We mean no harm to anyone, but don't push us too much ‎ ‎By Charles Chisala ‎IN LESS than two weeks, journalism and the media in general has suffered two attacks at the hands of intolerant political party cadres. The journalists' only crime was that they covered news created by the attackers themselves. ‎The latest victim is journalist Alfonso Kasongo of Power FM and Power TV who was beaten and humiliated in public in Lusaka yesterday by cadres from a known political party for merely filming what they were doing to a hapless citizen. ‎Bane, stop attacking us. It's unfair to slap, punch, kick and throw to the ground a journalist for doing what his profession requires him to do at the time. Lekeni! ‎Look, we journalists are cousins of flies and vultures. When you see a swarm of flies buzzing around a particular spot, just know that  there is something attracting them. When you see vultures in the sky circling over a p...

BARTHOLOMEW KALAMBALALA NOT HAPPY THAT RUFUNSA HAS NOT BEEN DELIMITATED

Image
Rufunsa constituency has been left out on this delimitation exercise. Let me bring to light to the people why Rufunsa constituency needed to be among the Constituencies that have been delimitated. Rufunsa is Sitting above 9000 square meters. Its boundaries are Luangwa, Nyimba, Chongwe, Chisamba and Luano. Drawing boundaries from east to west. It begins from Luangwa bridge up to Chongwe river. You have to drive 2 hours, 30  minutes on the this distance. The Population of Rufunsa constituency stands at 84 thousand people as of 2020 Census. For the past five years the population has grown above 84 thousand people. The considerations in the delimitation process lacked merit as they focused more on the population rather than the vastness of a Constituency. If Rufunsa was delimitated it would have enhanced development as it is a rural constituency. It's disheartening to note that the people of Rufunsa has been denied this Chance of development. If you look at the road network acro...

AFRICA’S ROADS ARE NOT UNDERDEVELOPED.

Image
Guest Article  By Daniel Mwamba Founder, Zambia Road Safety Trust Road danger in Africa is often described as a problem of weak infrastructure. That is only partly true. In many cases, the deeper problem is infrastructure injustice: a pattern in which roads that move goods and vehicles are upgraded first, while the roads used daily by children, pedestrians, cyclists, traders, and public transport users remain unsafe for years. The Lusaka to Ndola corridor illustrates this uncomfortable reality. It is one of the most economically important roads in Zambia and in the wider region. ZamStats data show that in 2020 Lusaka contributed 30.4 percent of national GDP and Copperbelt contributed 22.5 percent. Together, the two provinces accounted for more than half of Zambia’s economy. Government understands the value of this corridor. It is financed, maintained, patrolled, and discussed at the highest levels because freight, mining output, business travel, and national productivity ...
