The Commander of French Armed Forces in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Major General Jean de Monicault has commended the professionalism which is exhibited by Zambian peacekeepers abroad.

Maj Gen de Monicult says the professional way Zambian troops handle peacekeeping missions abroad shows how good and well trained they are.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr. Maambo Haamaundu this morning, Maj Gen de Monicault said the French military is interested in working with the Zambia Defence Force to foster peace worldwide.

And French Ambassador to Zambia Thomas Rossignol says France wants to work with the Zambian military through the Kenneth Kaunda Peace Training Centre to teach French to peacekeepers before they are deployed in French speaking countries.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr. Maambo Haamaundu said Zambia and France share similar values such as peace and security.

Mr. Haamaundu thanked France for providing French lessons to Zambian military officers at the Military Training Establishment of Zambia (MILTEZ).

This is according to a statement issued by Ministry of Defence Principal Public Relations Officer Paul Shalala.
