DEFENCE MINISTER MOURNS ZAMBIAN SOLDIER

Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma has joined the nation in mourning the loss of Staff Sergeant Alick Banda of the Zambia Army, who died in the line of duty while deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
Mr. Lufuma says the Government of the Republic of Zambia has formally notified the next of kin.
The Kabompo Member of Parliament says the mortal remains of the late Staff Sergeant Banda are expected to arrive in the country at 20:00 hours today, January 8,2026 ahead of burial arrangements to be communicated in due course.
He says Staff Sergeant Banda paid the ultimate price in the execution of his duties in service to international peace and security.
Mr. Lufuma says the deceased's conduct, discipline, and unwavering commitment embodied the core values and highest traditions of the Zambia Defence Force.
"On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief, the Government, and the entire Zambia Defence Force, I convey our deepest condolences to his family, fellow soldiers, and all officers and men of the Zambia Army" Mr. Lufuma said.
He says the Zambia Defence Force is mourning the loss of a gallant soldier, adding that his sacrifice will not be in vain.
He says Staff Sergeant Banda’s service stands as a solemn reminder of the courage, professionalism, and selfless dedication of all Zambian service personnel deployed in the defence of peace, both at home and beyond Zambia's borders.
