LCC RECEIVE HIV PREVENTION SUPPORT FROM LGAZ
The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has received a donation of HIV prevention materials from the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ).
The donation follows a request made by the Council’s Public Health Department in 2025 to LGAZ, aimed at strengthening efforts to curb new HIV infections in the city.
Items donated include 12 boxes of HIV self-testing kits (3,000 pieces per box), 10 boxes of male condoms, as well as Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials such as capes, T-shirts and corporate shirts.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, LGAZ Executive Director, Ms. Mpantanji Namumba, said the association was compelled to mobilise resources after observing the commendable work LCC was doing in fighting HIV beyond World AIDS Day, urging other councils to emulate.
Ms. Namumba further encouraged the Council to intensify its efforts, noting that local authorities across the country are looking to learn from Lusaka’s achievements.
She reaffirmed LGAZ’s continued commitment to working with the City Council and other local authorities nationwide.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Town Clerk, Eng. Liftery Ndaba, the Director of Housing and Social Services, Mr. Mwakoi Sililo, expressed gratitude and said the support would go a long way in protecting communities and raising awareness.
Mr. Sililo thanked LGAZ and its partners for the initiative, stressing that Lusaka remains the most affected city due to its large population and influx of business activities, particularly among the youth.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Health, Mr. Victor Kagoli, said the donation would greatly benefit adolescents, especially those in institutions of higher learning, assured LGAZ that the items would be put to good use.
This donation forms part of the LCC HIV fast track project being supported by LGAZ throuth the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa (AMICAALL) programme with support from UNAIDS and the national HIV/AIDS/TB Council (NAC).
