LUAPULA EXPO 2026 TO REPOSITION PROVINCE AS PRIME INVESTMENT DESTINATION
Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Prudence Chinama-Kangwa
says Government has revived the Luapula Expo as a strategic platform to unlock
the province’s vast economic potential and reposition it as a prime investment
destination, amid a highly conducive investment climate in the country.
Mrs. Kangwa said the 2026 Luapula Expo, scheduled for 19th to 23rd April, marks an economic awakening for the province, which has for years been regarded as one of the poorest despite its abundant natural endowments.
She said the decision to revisit the Expo, last held in 2017, is anchored in the New Dawn Administration’s policy direction of ensuring inclusive development and leaving no province behind.
The Permanent Secretary noted that Luapula is richly endowed with predictable rainfall, fertile arable land, extensive wetlands, minerals and water bodies accounting for nearly 30 percent of Zambia’s total, making it highly attractive for investment in agriculture, fisheries, mining, tourism and infrastructure.
Mrs. Kangwa disclosed that Government has secured clearance from the Secretary to the Cabinet to host the Expo, with preparations already underway and sector-based sub-committees constituted to drive the planning process.
She cited improved power supply as a major boost to Luapula’s investment landscape, highlighting the recent connection of the 20,500-hectare Green 2000 State-owned Farm to the national grid following President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive, as well as the ongoing construction of the 50-megawatt Mabumba Solar Power Plant, part of which is already feeding power into the national grid.
Mrs. Kangwa said the Expo will provide a platform to showcase Luapula’s readiness for large-scale investment, particularly in agriculture and agro-processing, as Government moves to address historical challenges of hunger, malnutrition and underdevelopment.
The Luapula Expo 2026 is expected to attract both local and international investors and reaffirm the province’s position on Zambia’s economic growth map.
This is according to a statement issued by Luapula Provincial Administration Public Relations Unit.
