LUBWA OMMUNITY POLICE HANDED OVER

The Government has officially handed over the newly constructed Lubwa Community Police Station, built with support from the Lusaka Central Constituency Development Fund (CDF), to the Zambia Police Service.

Officiating the handover ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, MP, described the facility as evidence of what can be achieved when communities take initiative, cooperate and government provides funding.

Haimbe revealed that the project was initiated by community members in 2022 using their own resources, but due to financial constraints, the government stepped in to expand and complete it through the CDF.

The Minister noted that the station is among the most prestigious in the city, equipped with specialised facilities including detention cells for men, women and juveniles, furnished with new furniture, showers, restrooms and a mechanised water system.

He commended the community for spearheading the project, saying their efforts prompted his office to secure additional funding for its completion.

He further applauded the Zambia Police Service for collaborating with his office and the community for the successful implementation of the project, adding that officers have already been deployed to the station.

Representing Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba, Commissioner Joseph Shanampota said the facility marks a significant step in government's quest to enhance security in Lubwa and Lusaka at large.

He stressed that the development symbolises trust, partnership and shared responsibility between the community, government and stakeholders in providing security infrastructure in close proximity to residents.

Commissioner Shanampota assured the community that the Zambia Police Service remains committed to professionalism and accountability, urging residents to cooperate and take ownership of the facility.

Lubwa Ward Councillor Clement Milonge praised the government, MP, CDFC and the community for their resilience in working together to strengthen safety and security.

Meanwhile, community member Jeff Kalemba thanked the government for completing the project, saying it will greatly enhance security in the area, pledging that the community will continue working hand in hand with authorities to promote safety and security.
