LUSAKA SEES REDUCTION IN FALL ARMYWORMS INFESTATION.

Lusaka Province has seen a reduction in the infestation rates of the Fall Armyworms due to the continued heavy rains being experienced and the spraying of the Pesticides provided by the government.

Lusaka Provincial Administration Principal Public Relations Officer Logic Lukwanda says this excludes low laying valley areas with low rainfall which increases the infestation as the weather conditions become ideal for the Fall Armyworms to multiply.

Mr. Lukwanda says as of 13th January 2026, a total of 13,821 hectares had been infested across the Province, while 10,000 litres has been distributed to all our six districts to counter the infestation.

He says in Chilanga district 659 hectares have been affected translating to 9% infestation rate and 1,500 litres of Pesticides has been allocated.

Mr. Lukwanda says Chongwe is at 4,242 hectares infested indicating 22% infestation and 2,300 litres of pesticides have been allocated, while in Kafue, 3,650 hectares have been affected translating to 16% infestation rate and 900 litres of pesticides allocated.

He says Lusaka district has 890 hectares affected, infestation at 11%, with 1,000 litres of chemicals allocated to farmers, while Rufunsa has 3,084 hectares infested, showing 12% infestation rate and 1,200 litres of Pesticides allocated.
