MAKEBI ZULU SPEAKS OUT ON ATTACKS ON ZAMBIAN TRUCK DRIVERS IN DRC

PF Presidential Hopeful Makebi Zulu has implored President Hakainde Hichilema to make a decisive and bold step to bring to an end the continued violent attacks on  Zambian Truck Drivers in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC-.

In his Facebook posting monitored by Kwithu FM Mt. Zulu says he has  continued to receive with utmost disdain various reports of the attacks on hard working Truck Drivers in the cross border transportation business who are being brutally attacked in their line of duty.

He explained that this is not a new phenomenon but a deliberate injustice on Zambians that have been going on for a while now and has continued to escalate to alarming levels.

He says it has become a daily occurrence now, where Zambian Truck Drivers and others from within the SADC region have become victims of violent attacks and senselessly killings at the hands of some dangerous people in the DRC.

Mt. Zulu says many families have lost their loved ones who have been killed in that region especially, some of them have not even been granted befitting burials as their bodies have never been recovered and brought back home.

he says there is an active case of four of Zambian Truck Drivers who have gone missing after allegedly being hijacked in the DRC.

He has  sympathized with the anxious and worried family members and pray for a positive outcome as we implore the government to ensure the quick immediate return of our people.

He says much as Trade is important for any country’s economy, it should never be at the expense of humans life.

Mr. Zulu is of the opinion that both Zambia and the DRC must ensure that this trade occurs in a peaceful and secure environment for Zambian truck drivers who bare the responsibility of transporting commodities that are essential to both our countries.

He says the urgency of this matter cannot be over emphasized.

Mr. Zulu has  urged President Hakainde Hichilema to quickly engage his Congolese counterpart on the matter to ensure guaranteed safety for our drivers.

He says Zambia cannot continue to sacrifice the lives of it's working men and women the truck drivers by making them continue to necessitate cross border trade in a hostile environment.
