ZAMBIA FUTSAL TEAM OFF TO GHANA

The Zambia Futsal National Team has left for Accra ahead of Tuesday’s first leg encounter of the final-round AFCON qualifier against Ghana.

Zambia left aboard Ethiopian Airlines and will battle it out with Ghana on Tuesday before hosting the West Africans on February 8 in the reverse fixture with the winner booking a ticket to the Morocco 2026 Futsal AFCON.

Head Coach Andrea Cristoforetti says the team is well prepared and aware of the challenge ahead, stressing that history will not determine the outcome of the tie.

“Playing away first is an advantage. We shall not rely on history to believe we can beat Ghana the way we did two years ago. Competition in camp has been very high, and I am happy that every player understands the importance of this game,” says Cristoforetti.

The coach adds that Zambia remains proud of its contribution to the rapid growth of futsal on the continent and globally.

“We are proud that Zambia is part of the growth that has been achieved in Africa and across the world. We shall continue working hard,” he says.

Team captain Chota Chileshe says the squad has prepared thoroughly and will approach the match with the same seriousness regardless of venue.

“We have prepared well for Ghana, but we shall not underrate them. It matters little whether we are playing at home or away,” says Chileshe.

Latest squad addition Musa Chiwaya echoes the captain’s confidence, while acknowledging the toughness of the encounter.

“We have prepared adequately and we are not intimidated by Ghana, but we know the game will be tough,” says Chiwaya.

Delegation Leader Vinord Mudenda says he is happy with the strong team spirit within camp.

“I have reminded the team to remain united, and morale in camp is very high,”  Mudenda says.

Zambia’s build-up to the qualifiers included two international friendly matches against South Africa last month, which helped the technical bench assess readiness and sharpen competitiveness within the squad.

The team departed early this morning aboard Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa, ahead of the crucial first-leg encounter on Tuesday at Ghana's Cape Coast University Sports Hall.
