ZAMBIA PREMIER LEAGUE MOURNS ANNITA CHOMBA

The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) is deeply saddened to announce the tragic passing of Annita Chomba, a 15-year-old female Locus Women Football Club  football player, who collapsed during a Women’s League match in Kabwe.

Zambia Premier League Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe says the incident occurred during a fixture between Locus Women Football Club and Kabwe Warriors Women Football Club, where Annita collapsed on the pitch while celebrating a goal.

Chimpampwe says the deceased was immediately attended to and rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.

He says sadly, despite all efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead.

"The ZPL extends its deepest condolences to the Chomba family, her teammates, the technical staff, and the entire football fraternity during this painful and difficult time. The loss of such a young and promising life is heartbreaking and has left the football community in shock" Chimpampwe said.

He says the League is engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

Chimpampwe said further communication will be provided as more information becomes available.

He has called on the football family and the public to respect the privacy of the bereaved family as they mourn their loved one.
