ACTIONAID WORKING TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF ZAMBIAN WOMEN IN CRITICAL MINERALS.
ActionAid International Climate Justice Lead Ms. Teresa Anderson, says the organisation is doing a lot of work in the area of critical minerals in the mining sector.
Speaking during the Cross Border Science Café
Program under the theme: Reflections on climate change, gender, health and
impactful stories, Ms. Anderson says the people in this sector mine minerals
but, their lives have not seen an improvement.
She says that communities are suffering from water
pollution and land degradation, adding that ActionAid has continued to work
with such communities in order to improve their lives.
Ms. Anderson has urged African governments to ensure
that their policies are able to support those affected by effects of climate
change.
And speaking during the same online Café meeting, Imali
Ngusale, Strategic and Technical Lead, at African Centre for Health, Climate
and Gender Justice Alliance, said climate change and gender are co-related as
it affects women and girls.
Ms. Ngusale says climate change deepens existing gender
inequalities by interacting with social, economic and political power
structures.
Meanwhile, Audrey Masitsa, the Regional Communication
and Advocacy Manager, at Mission Inclusion said women voices are usually
overlooked in climate change.
Ms. Masitsa is calling on Journalists to give a
platform to women to speak for themselves on climate change instead of using
third parties.
