CHIEF CHIPEPO INSTALLED

Government has witnessed the installation of Mr. Benard Liteta as new Chief Chipepo of the Lenje-speaking people in Central Province.

The installation ceremony follows the death of Senior Chief Chipepo, who passed away in 2021.

The colourful event attracted senior government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the public.

The handover of instruments of power was conducted at Chilumba Secondary School in Kapiri Mposhi District.

Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Godfrey Chitambala, who officiated at the ceremony, handed over the national flag and the date stamp to the newly installed chief. Mr. Chitambala urged the chiefdom to uphold peace and unity, while emphasizing that the authority to select a chief rests with the royal family and not the government.

He further noted that government is constructing chiefs’ palaces across the country to ensure traditional leaders live in dignity.

Meanwhile, Senior Headman Mupwaya, who was also in attendance, gave a brief history of the Chipepo chieftaincy and outlined the traditional process through which Chief Liteta was selected.
