24 OFFICERS GRADUATE AS MILITARY GENDER ADVISORS
24 officers from the Zambia Defence Force have today graduated as Military Gender Advisors after completing an 11 day training.
The training attracted eight (8) officers each from the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service from the rank of Captain to Colonel.
The National Level Reinforcement Training Package for Military Gender Advisors was organised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Canadian Department of National Defence’s Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP).
Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr. Maambo Haamaundu officially closed the training this morning and handed over certificates to the officers.
Mr. Haamaundu said the successful completion of the training marks the beginning of a greater responsibility for the officers to put to task the knowledge they have acquired.
"In today's complex security landscape, integrating gender perspectives enhances operational effectiveness, strengthens the protection of civilians and contributes to sustainable peace," said Mr. Haamaundu.
The Permanent Secretary said the officers should uphold the professionalism and excellence which the Zambia Defence Force is known for.
"The competencies you have gained here will enhance your ability to engage effectively with diverse communities, address gender-related challenges and contribute meaningfully to mission success," he said.
And United Nations Institute for Training and Research Facilitator Janie Desgardins thanked the Ministry of Defence for partnering with the global body to train the officers.
Ms. Desgardins said the knowledge the officers have acquired will be essential in peacekeeping missions and in their day to day work in the military.
This is according to a statement issued by Paul Shalala, Principal Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Defence.
