ELVIS NKANDU IN NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE FOR YOUTH DAY y
North-Western Province — Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Honourable Elvis C. Nkandu has arrived in North-Western Province ahead of the Youth Day celebrations scheduled for March 12, 2026.
Upon arrival, the minister paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province Minister Hon. Robert Lihefu, where he provided an update on the activities that have already taken place as well as those lined up in the lead-up to the national celebrations.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Nkandu emphasized the critical role that young people play in the development of the country. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting youth initiatives and ensuring that young people are empowered to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The minister also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received in the province, noting that preparations for the Youth Day commemorations were progressing well.
“Our coming here is well known, it is about the Youth Day celebrations which will be graced by the President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema."
He added that the government was implementing the President’s directive that major national events should be taken to different parts of the country.
“The President has said that Lusaka is not Zambia and Zambia is not Lusaka. Such celebrations must therefore be taken to different parts of the country so that citizens across the nation can enjoy them,” he said.
And North-Western Province Minister Hon. Lihefu commended the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts for implementing the President’s directive by rotating the hosting of national celebrations.
He noted that the ministry plays a key role in bringing people together through youth-focused activities and interactions that promote unity and national development.
