LCC ATTENDS CCTV PUBLIC PROTECTION BILL MEETING
Lusaka City Council Town Clerk, Eng. Liftery Ndaba, alongside Information Technology Manager Malcolm Mumpimpila, government officials and other council representatives, today attended a crucial meeting on the proposed CCTV Public Protection Bill, 2025, aimed at enhancing public safety while safeguarding citizens' rights.
The meeting, held under the Committee on National Security and Foreign Affairs, brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed legislation which seeks to regulate the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems across the country.
The Bill is designed to strike a balance between improving security and protecting individual privacy by ensuring that CCTV systems are operated within clear legal and ethical frameworks.
Speaking during the meeting, Committee Chairperson Brigadier General Morgan Sitwala (Retired), emphasized that the proposed law will strengthen security agencies' operations and protect citizens' rights.
He noted that once enacted, the Bill will require the public to register their CCTV systems, a move expected to enhance surveillance capabilities and support law enforcement agencies in apprehending offenders.
Sitwala added that the legislation will promote order and accountability, warning that individuals who misuse CCTV systems or infringe on others' privacy will face legal consequences.
