RDA COMPLETES INSPECTION OF CROSSING POINTS IN EASTERN PROVINCE.

The Road Development Agency (RDA) Technical, Finance and Audit Committees have concluded an inspection of selected bridges in Eastern Province.

The committees inspected the Mvuvye Bridge currently under construction in Nyimba District, which is expected to provide permanent connectivity between Chief Mwape’s community and the Great East Road.

The team also inspected Lundazi Bridge, Msuzi Bridge and Mpamba Bridge in Lundazi District, as well as the Msumbazi Acrow Bridge in Petauke District.

The inspection team was led by Technical Committee Chairperson, Eng. Clive Khan. The visit aimed to assess the current status and performance of the bridges.

Eng. Khan said the committee travelled to Eastern Province to inspect three critical bridges, beginning with Mvuvye Bridge in Nyimba District.

“We were informed by management that not much progress had been made on the project. However, when we visited the site, we discovered that the contractor, Trans Engineering Limited, has managed to procure drilling equipment required for piling the foundation. Because of this, we expect significant progress in the coming weeks,” he said.

He noted that Mvuvye Bridge is critical to the people of Nyimba as it connects areas with significant farming activities.

“The intention of Government is to construct a permanent bridge across the Mvuvye River. We emphasised to the contractor that, due to the delays that have occurred, they should accelerate works and make visible progress at the site,” Eng. Khan added.

The Agency has already paid the contractor an advance payment. However, the contractor has so far executed less than 10 percent of the works.

The committee also inspected Msuzi Bridge, Mpamba Bridge and Lundazi Bridge in Lundazi District, as well as Msumbazi Acrow Bridge in Petauke District.
