ZAMBIA SIGNS MOU WITH CHINESE AFRICAN ORIGINS CONSORTIUM TO EXPLORE SUSTAINABLE RURAL REVITALIZATION
The Government of the Republic of Zambia and the
Chinese African Origins Consortium have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to
enhance China-Africa cooperation and jointly explore a sustainable path for
rural revitalization in Zambia.
This MOU is based on China’s successful rural
revitalization experience, characterized by “thriving industries, eco-friendly
living environments, social etiquette and civility, effective governance, and
prosperous livelihoods,” and adapted to Zambia’s local resource endowments and
cultural characteristics.
It seeks to develop an integrated rural
revitalization demonstration project that combines leisure farming experiences,
cultural tourism, and agricultural modernization—directly advancing the
Presidential vision of transforming the country’s agricultural sector through
expanded irrigated production.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held
simultaneously at the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Beijing, China, and
Cabinet Office in Lusaka, Zambia, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Finance and
Economic Development, Mr. Siazongo Siakalenge was represented by Mr. Bernad
Kamphasa.
He stated that Government looks forward to the
development and implementation of the agreements that will actualize the
projects embedded in the MOU, emphasizing that these initiatives align with the
Eighth National Development Plan and the President’s vision of transforming
Zambia’s economy through sustainable agriculture and rural development.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s
Republic of China Mr. Ivan Zyuulu underscored that the signing of this MOU marked
an important milestone.
He called for the development of a comprehensive
project implementation plan, identification of suitable implementation sites,
and conduction of feasibility studies as
soon as possible to ensure successful implementation of the project.
Also present at the signing ceremony was Ministry of
Fisheries and Livestock, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Max Choombe, Ministry of
Green Economy and Environment Permanent Secretary Dr. Douty Chibamba, Ms. Winza
Mwauluka Chief Specialist-Projects at State House, Mr Dingiswayo Banda,
Director Finance and Economic Development and other senior government
officials.
This is according to a statement issued by Catherine
Kashoti, Second Secretary Communications at the Embassy of the Republic of
Zambia in Beijing China.
