MAMA G MEETS SPORTS MINISTER

Renowned Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, today paid a courtesy call on Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis C. Nkandu as part of her visit to Zambia.

Ozokwor is in the country to collaborate with Zambian filmmakers on the production of a local movie, a move aimed at strengthening ties within Africa’s creative industry and promoting authentic storytelling.

During the meeting, Hon. Nkandu said government remains committed to supporting the growth of the arts sector through policy reforms and investment. He noted that positioning the arts under a fully-fledged department in the ministry, as well as measures such as removing tax on film equipment, are helping create a more enabling environment for filmmakers.

And National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) vice president Mufaweli Tau Mwambo said the collaboration presents an opportunity not only to produce quality content but also to market Zambia as a film destination.

She added that the project will showcase the country’s culture, music and talent while facilitating skills transfer between local creatives and their international counterparts.

And in her remarks, Ozokwor stressed the importance of Africans telling their own stories, drawing from Nigeria’s experience in building a strong film industry. She said collaborations such as this are key to growing the sector and changing the global narrative about Africa.

This is according to a statement by Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts Principal Public Relations Officer Nchimunya Ng'andu.
