PeP Presidential candidate says Hard work must pay

Lusaka - May 1, 2026

PeP presidential candidate Eng. Chanda Katotobwe has delivered a sharp Labour Day message, calling for urgent action on jobs, wages, and pensions.

Speaking directly to young people, Katotobwe said many have done everything right but still find no opportunities.

“Jobs are scarce. Opportunities are limited. And for those trying to start a business, high lending rates are crushing their dreams,” he said.

He also backed workers across the country, calling for better pay and conditions.

“You keep this country moving. You deserve more than survival. You deserve dignity,” he said.

To pensioners, his message was clear: “After a lifetime of service, you deserve to be paid on time and live with security.”

Katotobwe said Labour Day must go beyond celebration and lead to real change. “Hard work must pay. Not someday—now.”

He called for a Zambia where opportunity is real and no one is left behind, adding: “Together, we can begin on August 13, 2026.”

KATOTOBWE’S FULL LABOUR DAY MESSAGE BELOW:

FOR EVERY WORKER, EVERY DREAM: A LABOUR DAY MESSAGE FROM ENG. CHANDA KATOTOBWE, PeP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

Today, we honor the strength, resilience, and dignity of the Zambian worker.

But honour alone is not enough. We must confront the reality behind the daily struggle that so many of our people face.

To our young people: you have studied, trained, and prepared yourselves for a future you were promised. Yet too many of you remain on the outside looking in. Jobs are scarce, opportunities are uneven, and the path to building a stable life feels blocked. For the entrepreneurs in our markets and on our streets, high lending rates and limited access to affordable financing continue to suffocate potential. This cannot continue.

To our workers across every sector: you keep this nation running. You deserve wages that reflect your contribution, workplaces that respect your humanity, and conditions that allow you not just to survive, but to build a life of dignity. Your concerns are heard, and your value is recognised.

To our pensioners: after decades of service, you should not face uncertainty or delay. Retirement should come with peace, security, and the assurance that your country remembers your sacrifice.

This Labour Day, let us commit ourselves to more than celebration. Let us commit to action — real, measurable, transformative action.

A Zambia where hard work is rewarded.

A Zambia where opportunity is genuine.

A Zambia where no one is left behind.

That is the Zambia we must build together.

And together, we begin on August 13, 2026.

ENG. CHANDA KATOTOBWE

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE (PeP – PATRIOTS FOR ECONOMIC PROGRESS)
