ROAN UTD PROMOTION EXCITES MBESUMA

Former Roan United and Chipolopolo striker Collins Mbesuma is elated by his childhood club’s promotion back to the Super Division after a ten-year hiatus.

Roan earned promotion in grand style last Saturday after thumping Forest Rangers 5-1 in their penultimate National League match at Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya.

Just last year Roan were competing in the FAZ Copperbelt Provincial Division One League before earning promotion to the National League at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

Roan were demoted from the top league at the end of the 2014 season having won promotion in 2006 after suffering another demotion in 2003.

Speaking from his base in South Africa by phone, Mbesuma hailed everyone who contributed to the promotion of Roan back to the Super League.

“I'm very excited about this news. It has been a long time since Roan United played in the Super League, people were almost forgetting Roan United,” he said.

Mbesuma himself played for Roan in the early 2000s before joining South African giants Kaiser Chiefs in 2004.

“I cannot wait for the Super League season to start when we will be playing the likes of Nchanga Rangers, Power Dynamos,” Mbesuma said.

‎” We thank management for the job well done, the coaching staff, coach Satchmo Chakawa, the players, supporters and everyone who helped the team,” he added.

Mbesuma paid special tribute to immediate past club President Pearson Mwale, who died last February.

‎” It is so sad that the club President Mr. Pearson Mwale died. Wherever he is I believe he must be at peace knowing that Roan are back in the Super League. It was his dream to see Roan back in the Super League. It is sad he cannot see how happy the people of Luanshya are,” he said.

Mbesuma also appealed to the club management to formulate a long-term plan that would ensure that Roan’s stay in the Super League is sustained.

‎” I’m asking management to find a long-term plan so that Roan stays in the Super League for many years. Once again, congratulations to Roan United. I'm very excited,” he said.
